Glen and I have been quite busy securing a building so we can bring music and art to the East Side of Pueblo. There’s a tired, old house two doors to the east that’s been boarded up way too long. Today the owner Matt, donated the house for the price of outstanding liens to the City of Pueblo. We plan to take the boards off, fix it up and make a happy place that kids and adults can go to make music and art. We feel there’s much too little of the “feel good” stuff in life. When budgets are being crunched, those are the first things to go. We want to bring back the things that make life’s stressed a little less stressful. If we can teach kids how to play guitar, piano, trumpet or any instrument we can get donated (because we don’t have any right now) it’s going to make the East Side a little brighter. Kids love art and there’s quite a bit of land where kids can paint and create. We’ll be able to show local art and bring music to those that might not otherwise have the chance. So today, we added a new property for the future of Occupy the Roads in addition to our little Red House (called Pueblo House). (more…)
Busy, busy day again! So much for a day off for Denise & Janet (maybe tomorrow we can cruise the Riverwalk?).
We started the day meeting with Tom to finalize 501c3 status. Ran to suppliers with Glen to get materials for Tino, Bill & Cory to finish the drywalling (ceiling in LR), also picked up the flooring (laminate) for the whole first floor. Cory filled in the holes in the Master Bedroom walls, so it’s just about ready to sand & paint. We made lunch for the guys, then held a meeting with the directors to discuss plumbing requirements and review the contractor bids. (more…)
Anyone and everyone is welcome to come to Pueblo to help work on the “little red house”. We managed to get this little piece of history in a very cool spot next to a community garden. Since arriving end of July there’s been an outpouring of help and offers to make this little house into something very special. (more…)
After arriving on Monday it’s been a whirlwind of excitement and a pouring out of offers to help renovate this little red house which was donated recently. We would like to thank Mark Carlos for giving us this house and an opportunity to show the community what we’re about. Pueblo, CO will be South Colorado Hub (SOCO) for Occupy. Since posting the information we’re happy to report that the community has come together in a great way to ensure we have the necessary tools to get the job done. (more…)
