Portland Protest

The ‘V’ spent a few days on the sunshine coast traveling all the way to Squamish, BC Canada where it surely was a big hit with all our revolutionaries on the side of it.

The day before leaving I noticed a lady riding her bike in front of the house. She had her dog on a leash and as I came out of the house to put some stuff in the RV, I saw that she had stopped and was now taking pictures of the RV, so I put the stuff down in the inside, closed the door and went to say hi. She said, “that’s quite a vehicle you have there”, to which I replied yes indeed. Then she stated how each person whose picture adorned the ‘V’ were so inspirational and made the world a different and better place. She remarked about people and serious struggles that were prevalent today. She said the world had changed and mentioned it was tough to deal with all the issues we faced without getting depressed (I remind myself this was Canada), then she mentioned that she cries almost every night about the things that are happening around us.   (more…)

Protest in Vancouver, BC

March 1st, 2014 | Posted by Occupy The Roads in Omnibus March on Harper | Vancouver, BC -Canada - (Comments Off on Protest in Vancouver, BC)
Janet & granddaughter Hanna

Today was the March 1s Omnibus march against Harper nationwide.  It was an awesome day as we marched in the streets of downtown Vancouver. Many protesters showed up  to speak out against Stephen Harper ….with his secret deals, his reneging on treaties and his strong ties with big corp’s who need “favors”.  Just like the US, Canada is struggling, with politicians being bought and sliding deals through without the “people’s” knowledge. But many groups are paying close attention and today they came together and it was awesome.
Most surprising was the low key police presence and their very decent attitude toward the marchers. Quite a pleasant surprise after the Denver march on Nov. 5th where the militia rolled out and protesters were harassed, face planted and arrested. Nothing of the kind here. The police blocked the intersections and actually had dialogue with the protesters. Lots of different ages, cultures and most of all…committed people who care about what’s happening to their land, their water and the air we breathe. There were many collecting signatures against Enbridge and Big OIL!!! (more…)

Janet is spending time with her husband, kids & grandkids.  While helping out the grandkids transition to daycare she’ll be reorganizing, planning and  strategizing the next steps for OTR.

Pueblo House is 75% done and just waiting on some skilled people to finish drywalling and put hardwood floors down.  June 12th will mark the One Year Anniversary since being donated.  Most all plumbing, electrical and upstairs are finished.  Fixtures need to be placed once the walls are complete.  The house will be used for meetings, education and helping the local community find resources to the many issues facing the Eastside (teen pregnancy, drugs, etc.).
