Occupy the dog house, help?

February 18th, 2013 | Posted by Occupy The Roads in Pueblo | Pueblo House - (Comments Off on Occupy the dog house, help?)

Today Kimbo and I got to catch up on a little administration in between “in and out” guests on the “V”.   We did our best to knuckle down to some serious FB updating, picture uploading, grant writing, accounting and follow up phone calls.  Kimbo wasn’t quite as productive as he lead me to believe he would be.  I constantly felt the need to oversee his work or lack thereof.  Each time I’d catch a glimpse of him slacking off, taking too many breaks and just dog on taking advantage of production time.  Finally I had to draw a line in the sand where he decided to lay down.  He had too many bone of contentions (of the rawhide form) so finally we just decided to head to the yard and fetch for a while.   Tomorrow I’m going to be more strict about those constant breaks he takes.   Right now he’s snoring and I’m still working.

Our little Valentine….”the lil red house”

February 14th, 2013 | Posted by Occupy The Roads in Pueblo | Pueblo House - (Comments Off on Our little Valentine….”the lil red house”)

Happy Valentines Day to all!   Our little Red gem (816 E. 5th St.) is getting quite a makeover these days.  Trades people file through assessing, measuring and fixing things.  We had Duke visit today and found out that Pueblo has quite a bike community.  He is excited to meet Joseph (also an enthusiast).  We’re holding a meet & greet at Pueblo House on Sat. around 3 pm so everyone can see how far along we are and get to know the crew arriving from Austin. Going full speed ahead on Pueblo House!

February 8th, 2013 | Posted by Occupy The Roads in Pueblo | Pueblo House - (Comments Off on Going full speed ahead on Pueblo House!)

Busy, busy day again! So much for a day off for Denise & Janet (maybe tomorrow we can cruise the Riverwalk?).

We started the day meeting with Tom to finalize 501c3 status. Ran to suppliers with Glen to get materials for Tino, Bill & Cory to finish the drywalling (ceiling in LR), also picked up the flooring (laminate) for the whole first floor. Cory filled in the holes in the Master Bedroom walls, so it’s just about ready to sand & paint. We made lunch for the guys, then held a meeting with the directors to discuss plumbing requirements and review the contractor bids. (more…)

OTR is in full gear on our activist house

February 2nd, 2013 | Posted by Occupy The Roads in Pueblo | Pueblo House - (Comments Off on OTR is in full gear on our activist house)

Pueblo House

Today the house was filled with 7 of the 10 activists who will be working on the house. We are doers. We exchanged ideas, drew up plans and organized our team capable of tackling the biggest problems, with nare a flinch. We’re making huge strides with our plan to have this little red house up and running in record time.

Denise has been very instrumental in organizing, promoting, and finding stuff. Denise’s husband Joseph will be joining us in a couple weeks and bringing in Ronnie & Randy with him from Austin. Woo Hoo! Ronnie’s a carpenter and desperately needed. I met Ronnie in D.C. on Nov. 5th. Super nice guy and we love his “can do” attitude. We’ll be really rock’n the Pueblo House. (more…)

Activism will be occupying the Pueblo House soon!

January 27th, 2013 | Posted by Occupy The Roads in Pueblo - (Comments Off on Activism will be occupying the Pueblo House soon!)

Occupy the Roads “V” (RV) is now sitting in the backyard of our Pueblo House in Colorado. With so much still to be done to get us to the occupancy stage we decided it was much better to focus on the property and have our activist house thriving. So, on Jan. 30th we were here ready to roll up sleeves and get this done. (more…)

Young Teens & Sex Education

November 1st, 2012 | Posted by Occupy The Roads in Pueblo | Pueblo House - (Comments Off on Young Teens & Sex Education)

I’ve been working on a video for Health services in Pueblo, Colorado where there is a very high percentage of teen pregnancy. I wanted to ask young people 1) “What do you learn about your body & sex and 2) where do you get your information?”. This is the result….Sadly.

Our friends from Ft. Collins are visiting and lending a hand

September 24th, 2012 | Posted by Occupy The Roads in Pueblo | Pueblo House - (Comments Off on Our friends from Ft. Collins are visiting and lending a hand)

We’re happy to have our friends from Fort Collins visiting and lending a hand to get Pueblo House one step closer to completion.   Sunday the gang arrived around 4ish.  Dave, Zach and Graham came to help us with sanding floors and framing the livingroom.  Dave is a strong activist in Ft. Collins and very astute with regard to politics.  His most recent protest was on A.L.E.C just this past Saturday.  Tino & Rachel were there to cover the story. (more…)

East Side Community & Vets 4 Peace Meetings

September 20th, 2012 | Posted by Occupy The Roads in Meetings | Pueblo | Pueblo House - (Comments Off on East Side Community & Vets 4 Peace Meetings)

During the day it was clean up, vacuum and get the floors ready to be sanded.   100 years worth of dirt around the baseboards, in the window sills and closets, and now it looking very good.   The floor sander will be rented for the weekend so hopefully all the upstairs will be done and ready to varnish.

David and Zack are coming from Fort Collins on Sat. evening.  They’ll be bringing Tino and Rachel back (who flew in from NY) with them.  Framing will be done this weekend and early next week.   The electrical will be assessed on Sat. to advise on supplies that will be needed.  The students (with supervision from Ken) will be doing all the electric wiring over the next 3 weeks.  We’re so happy to have their support.   Big thanks to PCC for this opportunity. Pueblo House got a new DO!

September 19th, 2012 | Posted by Occupy The Roads in El Pueblo Unido | Pueblo | Pueblo House - (Comments Off on Pueblo House got a new DO!)

Finally our “little red house” got a much needed roof over the past two days.  Cornerstone roofing (owned by Rory Huskins) did an excellent job and the workers (Edgar, Lalo, Jose, Flavio and Edwiges) prompt, worked hard and cleaned up amazingly well.

Work began early Monday morning, September 17, and the job was finished late in the afternoon of the next day. (more…)

Health Dept

Tuesday with Health Dept-Teen pregnancy work team- OTR is willing to do a documentary with teens (what do they know and what’s happening in the schools now) to be shown to parents and teachers.  Let’s educate everyone on what’s really going on.  Why does Colorado have such a high rate?  Is abstinence working ? (I think we know the answer to this one) (more…)
