849,610 pounds of toxic chemicals released into Colorado waterways

Industrial polluters released 849,610 pounds of toxic chemicals into Colorado waterways in 2012, according to a report drawn from federal data.

The most prevalent chemical — nitrates — causes algae growth that leads to dead zones in rivers and streams.

What a surprise it was to find out we won 1st prize in the 5 de Mayo parade as best float!   We found out the parade was happening and decided as a last minute entry to participate thanks to Brandi and Bob for letting us know.   As we arrived around 8 am we were directed to our position and then met a few of the Greeley Occupiers, shared coffee and donuts and stories.  The parade went down 14th about 8 or 9 blocks and straight into the Island Grove Regional Park, where we sat for the duration of the celebrations.   (more…)
