Reality TV and Occupy!

September 25th, 2017 | Posted by Occupy The Roads in Occupy Camps - (0 Comments)
MLK - silence

People attack you for standing up to the status quo and for equality. It’s hard to be different and be your own person with your own thoughts, in a world that wants a nation of clones. Ah, but now in the news… all this talk about football players kneeling during the anthem! In this country we have “rights” protected by the law? Freedom of Speech is one? If those who think everyone should just follow and not do, or say anything to disrupt the apple cart then perhaps they should go live in a country where you’ll be told what to think and say. As long as you follow the ‘rules’ no problem, right?.

This is a free country.. and if not for those who bravely participated in civil disobedience, no change would have come about. With all the turmoil in this country, the apathy has been astounding…but now OMG Football? The protest has gone to the sports fields and I couldn’t be happier, because while you were all watching TV the country went into the toilet, in case you didn’t notice. We have a President who thinks he’s on some kind of reality TV show and can fire anyone he wants, and has not one problem spewing hate, on anyone or anything that gets in his way.

I’m waiting for the country to catch up to those of us who saw it coming a long ago. It’s called “Occupy!” and those who braved the beatings and tear gas in the street, from those wanting it stopped, are hero’s in my eyes. I’m watching reality TV too and it’s getting really scary so I, for one, am hoping a lot of games are disrupted. Maybe then people will understand that crap is going down while you were comatose in front of the TV. There’s rumor that something is going to happen in a major city sometime soon and the US is going to let it happen, so they have another excuse to “bring on the wars” and it won’t be pretty. I hope this source is wrong but it’s coming from a reliable source on the inside. It’s llooking rather scary out there and I for one would like some peace. But you see there will be no peace until people figure out what’s going on and do something, anything to stand against oppression. There’s a reason this is on the side of my RV.

BC & Oregon were occupied!

Portland Protest

The ‘V’ spent a few days on the sunshine coast traveling all the way to Squamish, BC Canada where it surely was a big hit with all our revolutionaries on the side of it.

The day before leaving I noticed a lady riding her bike in front of the house. She had her dog on a leash and as I came out of the house to put some stuff in the RV, I saw that she had stopped and was now taking pictures of the RV, so I put the stuff down in the inside, closed the door and went to say hi. She said, “that’s quite a vehicle you have there”, to which I replied yes indeed. Then she stated how each person whose picture adorned the ‘V’ were so inspirational and made the world a different and better place. She remarked about people and serious struggles that were prevalent today. She said the world had changed and mentioned it was tough to deal with all the issues we faced without getting depressed (I remind myself this was Canada), then she mentioned that she cries almost every night about the things that are happening around us.   (more…)

Back occupying some roads

posters up on the V

The ‘V’ is back occupying a few roads as we make our way west across the US and then up to Canada where it will be parked for a week or so while we enjoy some ocean time.

The trip through Colorado, Utah, Idaho, Oregon, Washington and then across the border into B.C. Canada was beautiful.

We met a couple interesting men while getting tires checked in Utah and surprisingly enough found some of the same issues there as were plaguing Pueblo.  Crime and drugs do not have defined borders.  The interview will be posted shortly. (more…)

Working hard in East Pueblo

boys playing checkers

We’ve been working hard on the radio station to bring programs for youth and part of that entailed interviews of kids on the Eastside.  It’s pretty sad when 50% of the 10 kids interviewed openly admit they’ve thought of suicide because life is too tough.  We’re doing our best to reach out to kids and let them know they have support and options.

Two of our donated houses are now up and running.  We host MakerSpace @ 816 E 5th on Fridays from 4-6 pm.  On Saturdays we have open mic and yard fun @ 824 E 5th.   There are more programs coming, we just need funding to make it happen.   Our gardens have been planted thanks to Baker Seed Co (Rare seeds) who donated $250 worth of non-gmo seeds. Chelsea Manning

Obama’s flood of last-minute commutations marks the second day this week that he has reduced sentences for federal inmates. On Tuesday, he commuted the sentence of soldier Chelsea Manning, who had been sentenced to 35 years in a military prison for leaking US diplomatic secrets. Manning will walk free on 17 May. (more…)

Climate March in Pueblo

unles some...climate march

A few of us weathered the weather on Saturday to show our support for the National Climate March 2017.

With the snow coming down the speakers persevered to lend their voices.   Across the country people marched to stand up to the administration who think it’s not real.  Well, the people spoke up and this is what it looked like:

Music, Art & MakerSpace in Pueblo

Clay/Cobb oven addition.

OTR Foundation is working around the clock to bring a creative space to the Eastside of Pueblo where gangs and drugs run rampant.   It’s been some time renovating these abandoned homes that were donated over the course of 3 years.  With very limited funds we’ve managed to finish one for art and makerspace and almost completed the second for music and radio station.   After launching our 98.5 FM LP station we’re finding a voice for the community to raise its concerns and talk about the issues facing the Eastside. Our third house will be a while before we can find funding for that, but eventually that will become a media, virtual reality space.   Fun on Fifth St. is where it will be soon!   In the meantime we’re enjoying the (more…)

CSU-Pueblo Students bring their ideas for logos

The art students from Colorado State University here in Pueblo gave us some fresh ideas for their renditions of logo’s for our new radio station and the choices were tough with so many great designs.  We have decided on this one with a few minor changes.   We thank CSU graphic art students for giving us some great samples and making our little community low powered radio station so very cool! Pueblo Flash Mob!

Riverwalk In Pueblo

Calling all musicians to come join us for a flash mob in Pueblo CO.   This is a civil disobedience action to support all the musicians/artists who are banned from playing on the RiverWalk in Pueblo.  The RiverWalk was paid for with tax payer dollars.   But we found out only a dozen musicians are allowed to play on this long expanse of beautiful man made river walkway.   Not only that, they MUST audition before playing and then, if lucky enough to be approved (not sure what the criteria is or who decides) then the musician must remain in the same spot for only 90 minutes and not go anywhere else along the (more…)
