Our friends from Ft. Collins are visiting and lending a hand

September 24th, 2012 | Posted by Occupy The Roads in Pueblo | Pueblo House - (Comments Off on Our friends from Ft. Collins are visiting and lending a hand)

We’re happy to have our friends from Fort Collins visiting and lending a hand to get Pueblo House one step closer to completion.   Sunday the gang arrived around 4ish.  Dave, Zach and Graham came to help us with sanding floors and framing the livingroom.  Dave is a strong activist in Ft. Collins and very astute with regard to politics.  His most recent protest was on A.L.E.C just this past Saturday.  Tino & Rachel were there to cover the story. (more…)

East Side Community & Vets 4 Peace Meetings

September 20th, 2012 | Posted by Occupy The Roads in Meetings | Pueblo | Pueblo House - (Comments Off on East Side Community & Vets 4 Peace Meetings)

During the day it was clean up, vacuum and get the floors ready to be sanded.   100 years worth of dirt around the baseboards, in the window sills and closets, and now it looking very good.   The floor sander will be rented for the weekend so hopefully all the upstairs will be done and ready to varnish.

David and Zack are coming from Fort Collins on Sat. evening.  They’ll be bringing Tino and Rachel back (who flew in from NY) with them.  Framing will be done this weekend and early next week.   The electrical will be assessed on Sat. to advise on supplies that will be needed.  The students (with supervision from Ken) will be doing all the electric wiring over the next 3 weeks.  We’re so happy to have their support.   Big thanks to PCC for this opportunity. Pueblo House got a new DO!

September 19th, 2012 | Posted by Occupy The Roads in El Pueblo Unido | Pueblo | Pueblo House - (Comments Off on Pueblo House got a new DO!)

Finally our “little red house” got a much needed roof over the past two days.  Cornerstone roofing (owned by Rory Huskins) did an excellent job and the workers (Edgar, Lalo, Jose, Flavio and Edwiges) prompt, worked hard and cleaned up amazingly well.

Work began early Monday morning, September 17, and the job was finished late in the afternoon of the next day. (more…)

Health Dept

Tuesday with Health Dept-Teen pregnancy work team- OTR is willing to do a documentary with teens (what do they know and what’s happening in the schools now) to be shown to parents and teachers.  Let’s educate everyone on what’s really going on.  Why does Colorado have such a high rate?  Is abstinence working ? (I think we know the answer to this one) (more…)

Update on the Pueblo House

September 11th, 2012 | Posted by Occupy The Roads in Pueblo | Pueblo House - (Comments Off on Update on the Pueblo House)

For the past couple weeks we have been working on the house and networking. Tino has painstakingly done most of the brick work now (inside is done) so we can start framing. The walls inside and out were pretty bowed out so it was affecting the windows and other things not being in alignment. After some serious brick and mortar work it’s a lot more stable and looks much better. We’re going to be working on sanding windows, doors and floors over the next couple weeks. (more…)

Today I joined my good friend Dr. Anne Courtright who is a long time member of the League of Women Voters of Pueblo. Pueblo City Council Meeting- Democracy or ?

September 10th, 2012 | Posted by Occupy The Roads in Meetings | Pueblo - (Comments Off on Pueblo City Council Meeting- Democracy or ?)

Last night City Council meeting in Pueblo was appalling. With standing room only and then some being turned away everyone was eager to hear about 2 important issues:
1) Relating to Employment Benefits for Same Gender Domestic Partners
2) Amending Citizens United on the ballot

Neither of which was passed and both removed “indefinitely”. (more…)

Meeting with Young Dem’s

September 7th, 2012 | Posted by Occupy The Roads in Meetings | Pueblo - (Comments Off on Meeting with Young Dem’s)

Attended the Young Dem’s meeting on Friday evening so we could let them know about “Pueblo House” and how Occupy Pueblo is regrouping and growing. The meeting was prompt and organized and timely. The meeting was held at the Cock & Bull Tavern in old Pueblo. The meeting was held downstairs and afterward music was played upstairs (oldies-beattles + elvis). It was a great meeting and wonderful to meet such a dedicated team. (more…)

Pueblo Fiesta Parade was “occupied”

September 2nd, 2012 | Posted by Occupy The Roads in Fiesta Parade | Pueblo - (Comments Off on Pueblo Fiesta Parade was “occupied”)

It was a great day for the “V” as she rolled through the streets of Pueblo adorned with it’s own sombrero and sunglasses. The spectators were plentiful and the weather gorgeous. We could have used 1000 more pamphlets and absolutely more candy for the kids. The pamphlets gave information about OTR, Pueblo House & Occupy Pueblo. The postcards we gave out talked about Bradley Manning and why he’s being held. We felt a good education was done on behalf of “Occupy”. (more…)
